Drawing on his book ‘Tryweryn: A New Dawn?’, Dr Wyn Thomas draws parallels between the controversial flooding of the Tryweryn Valley and Bute Energy/Green GEN Cymru’s pylon proposals for the Tywi Valley.

Chair: Ronald Lewis

The third of Wyn Thomas’s acclaimed titles, ‘Tryweryn: A New Dawn? addresses Liverpool’s controversial flooding of the Tryweryn Valley in North Wales in the 1960s to increase the city’s water supply – an event widely regarded as a ‘significant’ in the emergence of modern Wales.  As the proposal by Bute Energy/Green GEN Cymru to erect dominant electricity pylons in the Tywi Valley gathers attention, the issues surrounding Cwm Tryweryn’s controversial flooding and the continuing situation of providing energy sources and the resultant impact on the environment remain as evocative as ever.

Gan ganolbwyntio ar ei lyfr ‘Tryweryn: A New Dawn?’, mae Dr Wyn Thomas yn tynnu cyffelybiaethau rhwng llifogydd dadleuol Cwm Tryweryn a chynigion peilon Bute Energy/Green GEN Cymru ar gyfer Dyffryn Tywi.

Cadeirir gan Ronald Lewis

Cyfeirir ‘Tryweryn: A New Dawn?’ at yr hanes o bentref Capel Celyn yng Ngogledd Cymru yn cael ei foddi er mwyn rhoi mwy o gyflenwad dŵr i ddinas Lerpwl yn y 1960au – digwyddiad arwyddocaol a thrist yn hanes modern Cymru.

Erbyn hyn, a oes paralel i’r hanes hyn wrth i Bute Energy/Green GEN Cymru geisio codi peilonau trydan trechol yn Nyffryn Tywi? Mae’r sefyllfa barhaus o ddarparu ynni o ganlyniad i effaith ar yr amgylchedd dal yn bwnc llosg hyd heddiw.
